Curtis James Jackson III, born 6th day of July, 1975, and professionally known as 50 Cent, is an American rapper, actor and television producer. 50 began pursuing a music career in '96. He had been recording his would have been debut album between 1999 and 2000 (titled Power of the Dollar) for Columbia Records; before an incident in May of 2000—for which he is now popular for surviving—where he was shot, taking nine bullets. This resulted in the album getting cut and the label dropping him. Upon his resurface in 2002 he was eventually discovered and signed by Detroit rapper Eminem (and by extension Dr. Dre). As of July 2014, he was the identified as the 6th best-selling Hip-Hop artiste of the Nielsen SoundScan era with over 16.7 million albums sold in the US. He was also a member of the rap group G-Unit.
